Savannas don't get big? o_O Check out the picture of mine. He's beastly and he's not even half way done growing.

I agree with Reptech. Green tree's are awsome monitors! My favorite. They don't get as massive as savanna's do and they're pretty to boot! :D

V. prasinus is probably my most favorite monitor species. They're pretty....pretty expensive when you would compare them to something in the price range of a Timor. Timor ($100) Green Tree ($600+). I don't know if money is an issue for the original poster. I still say go with ackies if this is your first monitor, of course they can be pretty pricey too!

Monitors that stay within 3 feet that are pretty thick, ackies, trees, and any odatriad for that matter fall off theyre all slender animals. Id suggest indicus complex, ie peachthroats etc.... 3 foot body length thick and not as expensive as the australian species. I have a pair of indicus sp for sale, tell your friend if hes interested to let me know, I also have a male peachthroat juvie. These are monitors that I am no longer working with so the price is great.

With the available height though it would be a shame not to use it (on something like a tree, or a roughneck).
