Ya so from experience I know what I'm talking about, you can not keep a Jardini in a 4' x 2' x 2' for life. The fish gets to big, but then again you all probably keep bets in those small little bowls too.

I change the water every week in the 30 gallon smartass. The 75g is still thriving and I added new fish too. Its obvious that you are the one with no experiance.

For a large fish I've always heard that the length of the tank should be twice the length of the adult size and the width should be the length of the adult size. So a Jardini at 24" should be fine in a 4x2x2 tank. I personally believe that 3x the length of the tank to the adult length of the fish.

True but Aro's are not the most manuvering fish. IMO a 30" would be a lot better. The difference in price is very low. And the added space can only make the fish happier you know.

bigger is always better of course... but the original question was:

what would be the minimum tank size for a jar or an asian then?

this is why i answered 4x2x2.

reason why i get my information from arofanatics is because they obviously keep a monster fish and it is more of a specific forum for people who only want to talk about arowanas and pretty much majority of them only have arowanas. reason why i would listen to them is because they only deal with arowanas and im sure they know their arowanas. plus they have competitions in asia specifically for arowanas. arowanas are farm raised in asia and im sure plenty of those owners know what they are talking about especially spending 300 for a green aro to thousands of dollars. if they say 4x2x2 is good enough for them... its good enough for me. my jar was only $20... and its housed in a 170... their 3k XB is housed in a 4x2x2... i believe in them.

also benzjamin13 is correct... twice the length of fish and enough space for them to turn.

ya but your channel cat is in the 75g and has been there 2.5 months, so how was it getting weekly water changes? maybe you should read up on your old threads

He's really been bothering me lately. He was my first fish and seems to be doing great. He eats like a pig but just isn't growing fast at all. All these channels on this site are huge! I got mine at 1.5 inches when he was a baby. Now, 7 monthes later, hes like 7 inches. Is this slow growth rate normal. He was in a 29 gallon tank until he was 6 inches, which was like 4.5 months he was in there total. He is now in a 75 and has been in there like 2.5 months, and only grew and inch. Can some one please help me.????

from experience bderick? cmon now, you have never kept a jardini for life. 4x2x2 will be fine for the first 8 years of a jardinis life. get over the subject already.

sorry you misunderstood, the experience is from keeping a large fish in a small tank, no it wasn't a jar, but it was proof enough to see that silver in a 4 foot tank.
