I oh WA
Help on deciding on a gar for a 120g..

- Sorry for posting it here, I no alot of u hate when people post stuff about a certain type of fish in the GA, but unfortunately there were no users currently in the Gar discussion & I was eager to get a answer and start looking.. :D

Spotted gar for a bit then you gotta upgrade :D

There are no such things as small gars (besides the false gars)

If you get a gar you need a wide and loooooong tank.

K I relalize that gars are relatively large, im not talking under 20", under 35" if possilbe because Ive heard alligator gars can reach large lengths

well spotted and florida gars can grow up to 3 feet. i had a spotted gar for 3 months and it grew fast. went from 5 inches to 11 inches. :headbang2

k. do u know any other predatory fish that don't have as much of a growth rate as the gar?

datnoids!!!!!!!!!

they can get pretty big about 16-20 inches. they are slow growers though. ive had mine for two years and it grew a little more than a little more than a inch and a half (my personal experience). but these fish are really expensive but worth the money.

comm fish or are they better left alone or with other members of the same species?? I jst checked aquabid & found some Indonesian tiger fry for 12$/each. Pretty good deal i guess.

There are 5 types of datnoids. Siamese Tiger (ST), Nothern Thailand Tiger (NTT), New Guinea Tiger (NGT), Indonesian Tiger (IT), and lastly the American Tiger (AT). They have a broad range or price that can go from $10-$1000+. The most expensive are the Siamese Tigers because they seem to be extinct in the wild. The bigger they are they more expensive they get.
