Smallest readily available shark?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
maybe a wards wobbegong [orectolobus wardi] or the epualettes hemiscyllium freycineti or trispeculare. if i were in your shoes i would research how to care for sharks in home aquariums and you will have a much better understanding of what you can and cant cant have .good luck

I've been researching it's just easier to know what to look for. All the sharks you said except Hemiscyllium freycineti are to big. Also I don't think it'd be easy or even possible to find in the aquarium trade.

none of these sharks grow over 80cm, they are benthic sharks, they are easily available in aus. i was in a shop yesterday that had about 50 wardi pups ready to be exported.

I'd just get a bigger tank... makes it so much easier... you can get baby cat sharks here in the states for less that $100... the only one I've ever seen was the Coral Cat Shark (Atelomycterus marmoratus)... I think it was between 20-30"... the small tank limits your choices

+2

Also LD...I'm having a problem figuring out what is an Aussie Cat Shark...however google keeps pointing me to "Marble Cat Sharks"..these shark grow approx 24 inches...if you could go bigger on your width I'd say you'll be fine...

Also you guys can refer to the sticky Tank Recommendations by Fleshy...when you flip a few pages you find a large list of shark tank sizes compiled together for specific species.

Gray banded bamboo shark. Only gets to 25"...I will hopefully be breeding them within a year.
