So I may not have room for a 75 gallon tank after all unfortunately. I may have to go with something smaller like a 55. Is that too small for mbuna, peacocks, or Lake Victoria cichlids? I'm interested in all male setups potentially.

55's & 75's are the same length and only 5" in width difference...

A 55 is too small for peacocks long term. They grow to 7"+ as adults. A group of mbuna could work, maybe 8-10 fish. I have never kept LV fishes so I cannot advise regarding those guys

I would not do all-male in a 55G. 75G is the minimum IME.

I had a feeling it was too small for peacocks.

What about all female mbunas? Many are the same colors as males.

Mbuna, even females, are more aggressive than even peacocks and haps. Why do all-female when you can have a 55Gwith 3m:12f Chindongo saulosi? Just add a group of 5 Synodontis multipunctatus for fry control?

(3m:12f in a 55G is for saulosi only. They are unniquely small and peaceful for mbuna.)
