The smallest that can be found occasionally is Cr. compressiceps. Admittedly it has been a couple years since I've seen these. A single specimen would do fine in a 20 gallon. 2 would be a bloodbath.

The other small pike species would be Cr. urosema (I have never seen this specie available) or Cr. sp. "Citrus Pike" (rarely see this one available).

All three species max out at around 3"-4".

Regani get to about 6". It's called a dwarf pike but a 6" fish in a 20 gallon tank will be the only fish you have.

I too was also wondering this. I was thinging or getting a regani or 2 for a 20g long but would toss it is a 46 or 75 later

I've always read regani max out at 4", is that their in the wild size with 6" being captive size?

Females grow 3"-4", males 5"-6". Almost all fish, given the proper conditions and space will grow larger in aquaria due to the "easy life" and abundance of food.

My regani male made it to about 5". I would highly recommend not keeping them in 20 gallon tanks. They may be dwarf pikes, but they are still aggressive toward each other and my male harassed both of my females constantly. They started out in a 55 gallon with a bunch of caves and fake plants, and even that wasn't enough to stop the constant chasing and fighting between the male and the two females. I eventually moved them into my 150g community and they actually seemed better there.

There's this misconception that small fish are best in small tanks, but when you take into account the personality and aggression of a fish, this just isn't always the case.
