My regani male made it to about 5". I would highly recommend not keeping them in 20 gallon tanks. They may be dwarf pikes, but they are still aggressive toward each other and my male harassed both of my females constantly. They started out in a 55 gallon with a bunch of caves and fake plants, and even that wasn't enough to stop the constant chasing and fighting between the male and the two females. I eventually moved them into my 150g community and they actually seemed better there.

There's this misconception that small fish are best in small tanks, but when you take into account the personality and aggression of a fish, this just isn't always the case.

I have a male regani that has wiped out more fellow reganis than I would care to mention, even in a 75 gallon. I made my girlfriend put our latest reganis in separate tanks for now and I will never put another dwarf pike near the one In our 75.

That's strange. I've had 7 regani together in a 125g, and there wasnt any fights...Some tail chasing, but no fights. Even when I got my first 4, they paired up great, picked up one side of the tank for each pair and never had a fight except when they were trying to spawn.

Granted, I had a lot of different dithers...but there was very little aggression.

There are several experts who suggest two pairs could share a 55g without any problem, and some suggest a pair can be kept in a 20long.

I'm sure it all really depends on how they are added to the tank, and what kind of aquascape they are given. Dithers play a big role in difusing the aggression too.

My own inexperience killed more fish during my time keeping dwarf pikes, than any aggression shown by the dwarf pikes themselves.

Were they Tapajos regani Decker? They seem to be more aggressive than the standard regani.

Idk Darth, those were the ones I got labeled as wallacei remember. We just got the new ones from Rapps.

We have 20 tanks, evey tank is aquascaped, overfiltered and dithered. I just think he is a rogue, lol. There are exceptions to every RULE.

Ohhh, those aren't regani at all ... yeah, those ones are really nasty *lol*

Yeah, most likely they are .sp Orinico Dwarf or a new species from what I've seen. Regani aren't found that far north. They are definitely more aggressive than regani are.

Mine started white ringed but is now orange, I'm expecting the color to continue to shift to red as she matured.

Red ringed and from the Orinico is most like sp. 'Orinico Dwarf' ... or possibly sp. 'Iniridae Dwarf' ... would be first two guesses. Would need to see the dorsal pattern to tell though.
