Smallest Tank Size For a 'Monster Fish'

Bichirs are quickly turning out to be some of my favorite aquarium fish. I've got a 3" senegal bichir right now that is one of my most 'personable' fish. He readily eats bloodworms and beefheart right out of my hand. He's in with some cichlids now, but I'm thinking of turning it into a bichir only tank. (My 40 gallon breeder.) I have a peacock eel right now in my 29 gallon. He's great fun too. Very interesting to watch and really gets along with his tank mates.

The water in my tank is 8.3. The bichir I have now has been in there for awhile with no problems. He was acclimated over an entire day to get him used to the water. We are planning on moving soon, and hopefully the water will be more neutral there. If it isn't though, are bichirs capable of thriving in water that alkaline? Are there any other bichirs that would be get along with the senegalus, live in a 40 gallon breeder, and live in the alkaline water?

I'd like to get him some tank mates.
Maybe another bichir just like him?

Go salt and get a wartskin angler, Antennarus Malcatus (sp?). Probly the coolest ambush predator Ive ever seen. They have em in the Diver's Den on Liveaquaria.com all the time. I had a 2" one in my 10 and its awesome! Check out a video on youtube of "frogfish eating"

Oddball

I checked that site you mentioned, and I could not find the pond you referenced. Do you have a product name? It looks like the mini Fish Farm which starts at about 2 grand for 400 gal. Please PM me if this is too far off topic.
