can you really compare wild caught to captive raised? i have never seen a captive clown over 24".

Since tanksize does not dictate fish growth there is no reason to think that a clown knife that is well cared for wouldn't grow that size.

Though they look similer they are no way related and exhibit different behaviors and traits. One thing you can do with a BGK though it give it a clear tube to hide it, something that won't work with a clown knife. BGK have poor vision but a fairly well developed electrical sense so at least if they are hiding you can still see them.

i thought all knifefish were related? still, what tank size?

Tanksize for a BGK? I would think a 90g would be a decent tanksize for one. They aren't all that active, a 6' tank would be better though.

Nope, not all "knifefish" are related. The BGK belongs to the Apteronotidae family in the Gymnotiforme order. The clown knife belongs to the Notopteridae family within the Osteoglossiforme order along with arowanas.

so do i. but he was just asking the smallest. i would think a 200 would be the smallest tank to keep them at their best and give them good swimming space.

I think a 200g would work for a clown knife as well but I don't have experiance with them and as such am hesitant to suggest a tanksize.
