I dont think 8 minutes of driving is worth buying another car just for the saved fuel costs. The smart car will probably break down by the time you get your moneys worth from the saved fuel costs. if you were driving several hundres of miles a day, maybe yes

well he said he was gonna sell the one car....and if he took the insurance off the other and didnt drive it i think it would be worth it

not worth it IMO and after watching that video no way in hell would i get one

if you are not currently making outrageous payments on the integra, i see no reason to get rid of it for the smart car. If the teggy is paid off, you would be saving alot more money to keep it. there is only a difference of about 10mpg on the highway, and 5-6 in the city. lets say its about a 10 mile drive to work your only saving pennies a day on gas, and would then have a smaller, less practical car with a car payment vs a fuel effecient car, with back seat and trunk. you can do small things to your teggy to make sure you are getting proper fuel effeciency, that would be a better user of your money.

Integ is paid off. I guess I'll just keep the cars I have now to save $$. I probably will go test drive the smart anyway just for fun..

I'll bet after test driving it your mind will be made up. It probably feels like driving a golf cart.

Not fun
Not safe
Not economical (due to initial cost)
Not smart

I like to look at Edmonds.com for info on cars.
here's what they said.
http://www.edmunds.com/smart/fortwo/2008/review.html

"Cons
Herky-jerky automanual transmission, pricey compared to larger subcompact cars, awkward floor-mounted brake pedal, not suited for highway travel.
"
and since you'll be doing 8 minutes on the Highway. I would say that's 8 minutes of white knuckle near death experiences.

I'd get a Mini. Test drive both of them and see what you think.

all I have to say is that, after I saw this thread, I went and check the price... these things are WAY more expensive than I thought!

don't do it. Considering how small the smart car is the fuel economy really isn't impressive. And especially with that short of a commute you won't see a noticable difference. Unless you live in NYC, LA, or another congested city and the only way you can find a parking space is by driving a microcar don't do it.

my $0.02

EDIT:
from http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/smart_car_models/fortwo_pure/the_smart_pure.html

71 horsepower and it needs premium gas, gimme a break. Get a VW TDI and enjoy better gas milage, better safety, and better interior room and comfort.
