Being the impatient person that I am, I want to minimize cycling on my 210g as much as possible. I don't have the wet/dry plumbed yet, so I figured I'd try to get some media on the bioballs at the very least. I'm currently floating about 50% of the bioballs that will fill my 2 sumps in established tanks. My question is, is this a good idea? I'm assuming bacteria will culture the balls? Then when I get everything running I'm going to add an established Eheim 2217 from my 50g onto the new tank. Sound good?

i think it will only culture the balls enough if the current population of bacteria need more surface area to grow on, its kinda risky if you want to use that media to cycle another tank because if the current bacteria population has already grown to the numbers it needs to keep up with the waste production of the fish it may not need to colonize the new media or colonize it well enough to use for cycling purposes.

it might work. but like stated above it might not colonize to well because the bioload is already establised.

You would be better of getting bio spira.

I've worked in the industry in the past and I can attest to the fact that biospira doesn't work.

I've used it in the past, on more than 1 occasion. I guess I'm just a lucky repeat customer. :nilly:

I guess it got warm.................

maybe on the day you set it up you can get some "sludge" from other peoples filters.
Just schedule a "free" filter cleaning that day

It's better than starting off clean and it makes you feel better too...as long as the tanks are clear of any problems (algae, desease etc.). Plus it helps remove the surface scum from the tanks :D .

Can you get a container(s) to put W/C water into and age the rest of the bio-balls in (change the water with each W/C)?

Bio Spira works if you can get it from a knowledgeable lfs, ask if their stock comes in refrigerated, if they look at you funny, try another lfs.

Instead of being impatient take the time while the filter is cycling to figure out how to get the little bubbling diver to go up and down properly :nilly: .
