If your tanks start to smell, you should do more frequent water changes, making sure to vacuum the gravel. This will remove smelly waste from the water. I had the same problem until I stepped up water changes to twice a week.

nope, mine used to. i think a big factor in this is overfeeding, and not removing not wanted food

Uneaten, excess food that was not promptly removed from the tank after the fish finished eating Dead plants or parts of plants that have not been promptly removed from the tank. rotting roots etc. last of all Insufficient water changes, insufficient filter maintenance.you might not have enough filtration or water movement in the tank.You must do a weekly 10-15% water changes.

mine never smell but i have seen smelly tanks before and i would say up your water changes and get more filtration
