Not the same thing. I would hazard a guess that the unprocessed fish have similar nutritional content. Are you getting unprocessed fish?

Whatever the case, make sure the anchovies are not seasoned or oiled.....I stick to any white fish meat from the sea....Krill and shrimp are also awsome....

i buy frozen smelt at the asian market. the cheapest route here by far. $1.79 lb

I found an interesting site with lots of nutritional values for both raw and cooked fish: http://www.elook.org/nutrition/shellfish/

Here's the page for anchovies: http://www.elook.org/nutrition/shellfish/3521.html

Smelt: http://www.elook.org/nutrition/shellfish/3875.html

Shrimp: http://www.elook.org/nutrition/shellfish/4007.html

Cod: http://www.elook.org/nutrition/shellfish/3623.html

smartlove_518- From this data it looks like raw anchovies are slightly saltier than other fish, but not as salty as shrimp, which many freshwater fish keepers use as a staple. Canned anchovies on the other hand are extremely salty.

i was curious, because i thought they were the same thing. I can get anchovy for $1.99 lb whole frozen. i can also get smelt $1.99 lb whole frozen. i just wondered which would be the best for rays, bass, armatus...etc.

The nutritional content of each is quite similar, so there is probably no difference to your fish.
