Snail control in a Ray tank ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
id let the snails be. free food for the rays.

The snails are tiny ... <2mm in diameter, not a lot of nutrition in there !

I'd worry about the population crashing for some reason ... for example the temperature went up by 5 degrees, the rays would be ok but would that kill off all the snails and cause a biological overload ? You never know, so I'd prefer to play it safe and reduce the population while the decision is under my control.

My rays also eat snails occasionally. Guessing yours have not caught on that these are potential meals.

well if your filtration is up to par i wouldnt worry about them dying... the out break i had in a small tank went through hell and lived...temp went through several fluctuations of 10 degrees when i had a heater malfuntion... i would just leave them be if anything they are a extra clean up crew..

Adding salt to the tank will kill them
The snails and/or the stingrays? Salt grains can burn and not all snails will be killed by it.

Blend a non-iodized salt in a bucket of tank water at 2lbs per 100 gallons for a week. Have done this with a pregnant ray in the tank to help heal mating wounds on another ray. No ill effects on the rays but all my snails dissappeared.
