I'm not TOO worried about the shells hurting their stomach because like gerryjun said, they eat a lot of crabs in the wild(much thicker shell). the main thing i was curious about would be if the snails supply enough nutritional value to be the bichir's staple. the snails eat excess BN pleco food: algae wafers, cucumbers, lima beans, squash, etc. (plus anything else that they can find)
Yes snails are good, because they have some greens in them from what they eat, that your bichirs will no eat directly.
Too much of anything is never good, always mix it up with other feeds and treats for good nutrition.
like feeding fish fillet once a week, market prawn, supperworms (their small one for small bichirs), small feeder fish (for larger bichirs) and alot more.
generally i dont give pellets, nothing beats unprocessed, natural, and fresh food types, they also grow much faster with fish meat.
But if you must give pellets for convenience, give the type for piscivores with high protein content to maximize growth.
Feed 3 times a day for juveniles as much as they can consume, but remove excess after 10mins to void rotting food spoiling your water.
