Ok so I am having a bit of a snail problem they have taken over my tnk in the past week which right now only has plants and one bamboo shrimp. So my problemis how should I get rid of these? Since any fish I would put in there would most likeley kill the shrimp too and manually doing it will be near impossible since it is so densley planted and there is like 4 inches of substrate. Any ideas???

Are these pond snails? They're not that dangerous to plants. If you're overfeeding, it could explain why they have population boom. The only way to control their population is restrict feeding, lettuce baiting and manually remove them. Chemicals can have dire effects to the whole population and as you said earlier, fish aren't exactly the best methods either as they can put a dent on your shrimps. How about assassin snails (Anentome helena)? They won't eat shrimps but can prey on other snails. They tend to cost a bit but they're pretty to look at.:D

P.S. If you want assassins, go to Aquariacentral.com and PM the invert enthusiasts most particularly Arakkis. They sell plenty of assassin snails.

Ya they are pond snails I am not worried about the plants they are just taking over everything. No I am not over feeding b/c there are no fish in there just the shrimp and they find their own food in the tank. Hmmm the assassin snails look pretty cool do they require anything special? And about how much do they run for?

Assassins like meaty foods. They are predatory by nature and will prey on snails smaller than them including pond snails, Malaysian trumpet snails and ramshorns. Apparently, they aren't as prolific but they do lay their eggs one by one anywhere they want, mostly plant stalks. Get a spare tank for you to breed extra pond snails in case the assassins put a big dent on their population. Bloodworms can provide as good alternatives for foods.

Post here. OP sells them for $3.99 each.

Thanks for the info I am deffinately going to look into getting some.

They are interesting critters. Alternatively, You could tyr baiting the pond snails. I use an old water bottle. I cut the top off right where it starts to taper and invert back inside. I add a piece of veggie at lights out. Remove after several hours, discard snails, and repeat. I am curious as to why you have suhc a population explosion. Are the plants healthy?

i bought two pacu's at wall mart and it seems they took care of my snail problem.

My gf used clown loaches one time to get rid of snails, but the downfall is they also uproot some of the plants.

The problem is this tank is planted so they will begin to destroy them as much as the issue of them outgrowing it.

Unless the plants are firmly established, yes, they will uproot the plants. Another issue is tank size.
