I'm kinda late with this question, just saw your posting. Maybe you already got rid of them. What kind of snails are they(were?). If you still have them and they are Ramshorn I would buy them. I have a Puffer who eats about 100/week.

for some reason the potatoe thing never ever works for me, not a single one.and i got two loaches to take care of the problem but that didnt help now im stuck with a clown, one died.i have trumpet snails by the thousand.i have ecocomplete and it is just littered with snails.i would love to get a puffer but theyd just chew up my other fish also.its ok just to reach in and squish them?it wont hurt the water?

yeah the potato thing never worked for me either.....and yup...not even a single one.....i went through everyday after work and picked out the ones i can see....not crushing them......then i put them in a container with a lot of algae destroyer....soon enough most of the big ones went away....after that i dosed the tank with a safe amount of algae destroyer.....now i have no more...the algae destroyer kills the small ones so im all clear now....just the plants and the fish now...

i'm having the same problem too. i'll try the potato wedge later though... the snails are a nuisance to my plants, especially my new dwarf anubias. as to what kind of snails, i'll take a picture of them later and post here.

i got rid of them. the potato and other stuff work to some extent, but not nearly all of them. i got some med the fish store guy recommended and bam all gone in like 5 minutes.

I wouldn't have gone the chemical route myself, but to each his own. I never heard the potato wedge idea either and will have to try that sometime. My snails aren't out of control yet, but it would be good to know I can keep them from getting out of control. I know loaches and a few other fish are good for eating snails, but what about crayfish? I would imagine they would eat snails, too. Someone else is gonna have to help me on this one, but I believe there is a snail (assassin snail?) that eats other snails, too.
