Has anybody got any experience with snails in with flowerhorns.

I'm thinking of sticking 5/10 nerite snails in my 120 to help with algae and sand movement and what not.

Although I feel they will be fine I don't want to send them to there deaths.

I dunno about nerite snails but I used to feed mine pest snails as treats he crushed them open with ease.Do nerite snails get very large?

Oh really lol that's good to know.

They get about 1 inch round when fully grown maybe if I can get some large ones they would be OK especially if I can get them while he's still small he's 6inch at the moment. But I don't know about when he gets bigger lol.

Chances are he will eat them. Snails do make up a part of cichlid diets in the wild (I think). My 1-2 inch acara eats pond snails. Probably the same in reference to a flowerhorn and nerites.

You could try Malaysian trumpet snails. Theyare hard to break, hide in the substrate (helping to clean it), and multiply fast. Most fish avoid them.

Yeah I think your probably right about that.

I did consider the Malaysian trumpet I can get them for free ?.

The big reason for the nerites though is that they won't breed I don't want to be pulling snails out of my filter impellers and what not

Makes sense. Excess snails are only fun if you have snail eaters like puffers.
Have you tried a bn pleco for algae. Every flowerhorn is different. Or are you worried about bioload at that point?

Yeah I used to actively add them when I kept blue botia.

I havent tried a BN and not because I'm worried about bioload (FH is alone in a 120g) but because he's pretty aggressive, I'd worry he would torment the BN or kill it.

He has no issues attacking me ?.

?

Another thing I considered but Im real paranoid of sand getting stuck in it and scratching the glass lol.

Maybe my only option through.

I normally use the edge of an old bank card/store card it has worked great for years untill I got my FH ?.

He's the only fish I've ever had that doesn't seem scared by anything, that's the first time he's bit me but he's always trying.

He's only 6 inch now I don't want a bite from him when he's fully grown ?.
