Hi All. Been lurking for awhile, but this is my first post. My tank setup includes a couple of synodontis black panther cats, a clown knife, peacock, and silver aro. About a month ago, we got some ghost shrimp for a small treat for the cats (and otherwise), and a few days later I noticed a couple very small snails in the tank that presumably came from the LFS with the shrimp. Didn't think much of it until today, where I saw 10+ of things throughout the tank when doing a water change. Curious if there any risk I need to worry about, or do they potential have any positive effects that I'm not thinking of.

Appreciate the insight.

Welcome aboard

You will all ways have risk of introducing something when you don't quarantine and feed live. Hopefully it is just the snails. I suggest setting up a quarantine tank for your ghost shrimp. It will be great if you got your fish to eat prepared dry food and frozen only.

You can just net the snails out.

I once got snails in my tank. I don't know how they got there. New fish? New decorations? there was very few then there was like a lot lol. just keep getting rid of them and they'll go away. You can clean your tank if you think they made a lot of eggs

Snails,

got em, they eat my plants... they come in on them, I’ve done a few copper treatments but these guys can produce quickly....

Like the other guys said quarantine, most people don’t care for them, I’ve even bought assassin snails, don’t work....

Good luck!

What type of snails are they? I had MTS (Malaysian trumpet snails) which actually gave me a lot of benefits. I prefer having snails in my tanks rather than not, but this also depends on the type of snail.

Thanks. We 99% of the time feed pellets (hikari floating and sinking), so never thought of quarantining the "treats.

I'll probably go this route and just have to keep netting them as I see them. Went from a couple (which we though looked kind of cool) to then seemingly to have exploded in population

Agreed. The type of snail really determines what to do. I also keep Malaysian trumpet snails in all my tanks. They are excellent detritus reducers. Bubble snails can be a pain, but most fish will eat them.
