Snails...Any Concern?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like to have snails in some of my tanks depending on what typ of snail it is. Ive got spixies and sandsnails in some tanks ive got. The are great cleaners and an bonus that i dont have to buy food for my fahaka. Just collect from one tank and dumps them in to the fahaka and dinner is served.

Thank you. So I guess leaving some is fine as they aren’t hurting the tank but removing as multiplication becomes an eyesore.

I’m assuming none of my fish (syno, clown knife, pb, aro) are going to eat

You can remove the gravel temporarily and even the decorations while you got snails. It'll make it easy to take the remainings out and they can't really breed.

yeah Malaysian trumpet snails. As you have gravel in your tank I would try and keep these snails. Bits of food and detritus can fall between the spaces and the snails will do a great job at cleaning it up.
I have had synos in the past and I have seen them munch on these snails occasionally. They don't actively pursue them like a clown loach would, but they snack on them from time if they manage to get them. MTS have very hard shells.

They usually hide during the day, but at night when the lights are off they all come out in full force.

excuse my tardiness, welcome to MFK!

The are also a fantastic gauge to tell if you are overfeeding the tank. If you overfeed they tend to explode population wise, but cutting back on the food keeps them in check
