Snails be gone

Thanks all.
I've emptied it again and dried it out, even pulled out the hair dryer.

I'll give it a week or so then bleach just to be on the safe side.

If you're not in a rush give a month. I've heard stories from reputable people saying they've had MTS survive in a bucket full of gravel for months with no added moisture.

I think that was me that said that as I said something similar to that before. Those little creatures are resistant to dying.

I believe I've also heard Cory from aquarium co-op say it in a live stream once a long time ago, but don't quote me on that. I just remember thinking that mts are no joke survivors.

copper, loach, african cichlid... my bass eats them...

This tank was my step dad's, when they moved house he emptied it (leaving just the substrate in the bottom) and gave me his fish. When he set it back up nearly 2 months later he still had MTS.

I knew when it was handed over to me it wasn't going to be easy to get rid of them.

I went with the bleach, the water surface was covered in babies. 1:70 ratio, turned the filter on the let it run for a few hours, hooked the garden hose up to the laundry sink and blasted the filter out. I've now rinsed it out and have it set up and running with fresh water, no filter media I'll leave it like this a couple of days and see if any more show up.

I'll likely just use the gravel on my indoor succulent collect, not going to risk putting it in a tank.

Yeah if the substrate is cheap just tossing it and letting the tank stay dry for a while should do the trick too, but bleach should do it also, I try to stay away from harsh chemicals but that's just my paranoia talking lol.

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't use bleach but this filter is just stupid. The two corner compartments you can't reach all the way in, with plumbing running along the bottom of the tank that you also can't get to.

That filter looks cool...but it also looks like it was designed by someone who has never owned an aquarium!

Now...let's just hope that you haven't jinxed the whole thing with your expression of success...:)
