I'm thinking about trying some snails to control some algea in my tank (stupid idea?). I tried the pleco route but my common wolf ended up eating it...:nilly: Any thoughts or ideas are welcome. thx

I wonder if the horned nerites can choke a wolffish to death with their spines if the wolffish decides to try eating the flashy colored snails. Is the algae rampant? Try the ramshorns (Planorbis sp.). They tend to proliferate rather rapidly and they also eat algae but correct what really is causing the algae if the growth is rampant.

I'm not sure I would use the word rampent but it is building up and I'd rather have something that is able to eat it so I dont have to wipe down the tank so often. Plus, something else in the tank besides the wolf fish would be nice as well. What are some symptoms other than light for causing algea bacause I have a very dim light on the tank as it is and it's located in the basement so there's no real light hitting it other than the one on top.

probably diatoms. how old are your bulbs and how long has the tank been established?

I'm not sure how old the bulb is, I think it's pretty old which is the reason why it's dim. The tank has been established for a few months now.

Its likely caused by excess silicates in your tank from being relatively newly set up. They will resolve in time. For now, i would just manually remove the diatoms as anything you get to eat the algae will need to be supplemented once its resolved. I would also replace your bulbs.

That's nice to know it will diminish after a while. I sorta like the tank being dim for the wolf fish, couldn't I just wait until it burns out? thx for the help by the way.
