snails with wolf fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My pleasure. You could, if you want a less bright bulb, go for a daylight in the 5500-6700k spectrum. It gives a more yellow appearance as opposed to the white/blue spectrum of a 10k bulb.

Wolves arent known to be snail eaters...at least not the mala's i have seen....im not sayin they may not pick a few off, but from what i know, they're much more of piscavores........prefering fish and such.......

Older thread, but, we have a rainbow wolf fish, he's maybe 6-7", and he eats snails for us here. I haven't tried any bridgesii in his tank (because I don't want to risk it), so I'm not sure if they'd survive or not. Pond snails, however, have managed to lay an egg sack or two, and the babies haven't been detected by him yet, but they haven't been a huge help with algae in our tank. Granted, I sort of like the algae on the glass, it's about the only green thing I have in that tank... Lol. I just use a magfloat to keep the front clean.

On my wolf tank I just use a single 18" bulb. This will light up where ever you place it and the rest of the tank is pretty dim. Seems to work out well with my wolf.

Well, hubby and I decided to try one of our ivory male bridgesii in the wolffish tank (with supervision at first), and after a little bit of investigative nips, he left it alone, and they're both doing well in the tank right now. Once my trapdoors get here, I'm going to try one of them, because they're supposed to be better with algae control anyways. Maybe try a larger/sturdier snail like an apple or trapdoor with your's? That's of course, if you really want a snail in there, otherwise, try to avoid the algae problem with different light cycles or whatever. ;)

I tried putting a couple LARGE snails in there and they ended up on the intake tube of the AC110. I dont know if they were attacked and killed first but after removing them off of the intake tube they were dead :(
