I just bought 1 snail tonight. I do not know much about them, this one was a larger snail and since I only bought 1 it cannot reproduce. Are any type of snails good for a community of fish?

A lot of apple snails are. Any pics of this one? Have you already identified it?

It's probably a Mystery Snail only cause they are so common... but not sure where your located.. although there all over the place here..South Texas..

Yep. Mystery snail (Pomacea diffusa). They don't eat plants and can get along with some fish. Some fish though will nip their antennaes and eye stalks.

They like cucumber, zucchini, lettuce, algae wafers. I have one in with my betas, they can get pretty big if cared for properly.

I bought 2 of these on Saturday, one gold one blue, for the first couple of days they wandered all over the tank. No sign of them anywhere yesterday or today- was begining to think my Neons had managed to smuggle a Dremel in and cut them up but I just found them snuggled up together in my Pictus' hollow log. The Pictus doesn't seem to keen on sharing but doesn't look like he has much choice!
