Snake eats a live bird ... SICK@!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its a technique of "power feeding" though some people abuse it. you pretty much feed the snake its normal meal and when it is almost done you force another rat/bird/whatever in its mouth an it will continue to chomp down on the food. the reason the chick is not head first is cause it was not actually caught by the snake (the snake would have done it right!) it was placed there for the effect by the owner. i have seen friends do this with 2 dead rats never a live cute birdie though! + my quaker parrot just died! i dont want to see any birds dead or dying till i get over him! :(

another stupid snuff film. another jerk owner. sick people.

Cruel and pointless, isn't it bad to feed live animal to pet snakes cause it promotes striking.

I've never had a trouble with excess striking behavior in snakes that were fed live food. Striking is usually caused by either moving your hand in an aggresive, scary, or enticing manner in front of your snake or getting the smell of food on it. Snakes strike instinctually whether you've provided live prey or not. Some species or individuals are more aggressive than others no matter what you feed.
My dad had a lot of snakes when I was a kid and at first we bred our own mice, but we started feeding frozen after information about injuries sustained from live foods started coming out a lot. We never had injuries to our snakes, but we were tired of breeding mice anyway. (The smell, bleh!!)
Honestly I don't think it's a major problem feeding live with proper husbandry, but it's better safe than sorry, especially for new keepers. Unless you have a valid reason and experience with snakes feed frozen.

Whoever made the video is simply an idiot. Not because they fed live prey, which is personal preference, but because it wasn't prey at all! The snake didn't decide to grab and constrict the bird and eat it, the live bird was stuffed into the snakes mouth for no good reason. Silly and foolish.
