I just ordered my 11" flexwatt and Vivarium Electronics VE-200 thermostat.

I still can't decide on what size tub for my snakes.

I bought the 'Workforce' 24"x36" plastic storage rack from home depot: http://www.homedepot.com/Workforce/...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

The clearance on the long side between the legs is 31.5", and on the ends the clearance is 20".

I will be looking for plastic tubs 24" wide by 30" if possible. If anyone knows a source for tubs that fits those dimensions please let me know.

Now what I'm stuck on is height. I see most people use 6" tall tubs, and their snakes seem to thrive.

I'm debating using taller tubs so that i can include a branch in each tub for climbing.

I will be keeping two ball pythons, a cornsnake, and a mexican black kingsnake, all are within the same size range, what size tub would you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well you could get taller tubs and put some climbing branches in, but honestly I have all my balls in tubs on newspaper with just a water bowl. I sometimes throw in a hide box if they are a little skittish but that's all you really need. Snakes really don't need much at all. I mean I am not saying don't do it, just saying you don't have to.....

that seems to be the general consensus with people using rack systems and their animals are healthy. What about floor space? 30" by 24", is that enough?

What size is good for adult colubrids like cornsnakes and king snakes?

26/28qt okay?

28qt should be fine, some people even keep adult bp's in 28qt's

Why not use a more traditional cage set up where you can view and appreciate your animals? Racks are generally reserved for those who are breeding in large numbers, not for the average ball python keeper. I think that both your snake and yourself would be much better off investing in some other sort of stackable cages that you can see into. Boamaster has some very good and affordable cages.

Just my 02¢

I plan to have a number of animals that to me makes sense to me to have a rack setup, because the cost is a lot less, and still provides for the animals needs.

Honestly - and some people with disagree.
I think ball pythons do better in racks.
They're shy snakes, and I think being in a rack is less stressful to them.

Attackfish and wretched have both hit the nail on the head.

You don't need "display" cages and racks save room. The snake doesn't care if it's in a $500 display cage or a $100 DIY rack, living on top of Susie Ball Python, his downstairs apartment neighbor.

Room, heat, water and hide...that's what matters.
