Nice fish and even better catches! Congrats. To avoid death or excess damage when fishing for snakeheads barbless hooks and a long trace (yours looks very short!) are recommended. With those teeth even 40 ~ 50 lb mono could quite easily be chomped through!! I personally use 100lb PE braided line which is doubled up 20cm from the lure to avoid bite offs ;)

Hi bro thank you very much for your comments and infor,i don't use barbless hook for snakeheads or wild fishing ,Giant snakeheads are very hard to get your hook set in as they have very thick jaws and when set in they tend to throw your hooks easily plus they will go straight to any snag when hook on,i don't want to have a 20kg throwing my hooks off becoz i debarb them;),my leader is always 6ft long and a 30lb-50lb FC leader attach to my mainline with FG knot, for locally it will be more than enough and successfully rate on landing my catch with 30-50lb leader is 80%.100lb is way too thick and heavy for local snakeheads,15lb-30lb class braided can land a 9-10kg monster and moreover local spots need to cast out very far in order to reach their hiding zone or their feeding ground so with a 100lb braided we can't reach distances;),just sharing below is a 8kg landed with 10lb Fireline Crystal and 30lb Galis FC leader.

And share with you bro, this knot save me from alot of line busted times(Barracuda,Snakehead,Grouper and Arapaima which all swallow my whole lure) and i name it THE TAIL OF A BULLTERRIER wahahaha...just kidding

100lb braid isn't too thick when fishing points like this ;) :

It seems we fish in very different fields, 'mine' being heavy cover and 'yours' open water. Tackle and methods therefore will differ. I still think barbless is the way to go with snakehead fishing for two reasons though:

1. If a fish snaps you off (which it will not if using sufficient breaking strain lines) the fish has a chance of shedding a barbless lure whereas with barbed hooks the fish is pretty much doomed...

2. Removing a barbless hook from that mouth is much quicker and safer for everyone involved. Especially if the fish is hooked deeply. Yes you will no doubt loose some fish, but this is part of snakehead fishing. :)
Anyway I'm not here to criticise your style or methods I'm just saying!
Tight lines mate.

No worries mate :) I do understand your point of view, yap our fishing grounds are very much diff,I do know that Jap use 100lb for snakehead fishing as their ground are too heavily cover so one has to use thicker lines in order to get those monsters out of their hole.I wish one day I could pay Japan a visit and get my hands on those snakeheads on some Smith weedless frog lure :)

Tight line always
