snakehead and arowana

I have a group of 6 Lucius. Knew thet got along very well inta specifically.

You open a whole lot of venues for me Bottles! :)

Yes Miguel, you may find a few species that work. Having 6 though, if a pair should form, they may become very aggressive.
I would stick to non-aggressive species of the same size or larger for tankmates.

I actually think that Channa Lucius may be a better option. They are even more passive than C. Pleuro. I have had success keeping them in a number of communities.

You actually sold those 3 Lucius and the pleuro to me. All 4 are now with gars, bichirs, knifefish, cichlids and aros in 315g. The biggest one which was 14" when u sold me is now 18". The 2 10" are now at 15". The pleuro became territorial to the bigger lucius when it reached 18". No fighting though. The pleuro will just flare and get close to the lucius when the lucius goes up for air. The lucius swim close to the substrates while the pleuro swims close to the top.

To the OP. An asian green aro will become aggressive. Also keeping it with similar size juvenile snakehead and it will likely harass the snakehead. I keep a group of 5" pleuros with my 6-7" asian aros and the aros will harass the pleuros. The aros think they are food as my 6" RTG tried to swallow an over size 5" snakehead. Juvinile snakeheads swims differently compare to adults and the way they swims can trigger ap redatory fish attraction to prey on them. That's some uses baby snakeheads as feeders.

I have success keeping adult emperor snakeheads and blotched snakeheads with asian aros. I still have a pair of emperor snakeheads my tank with asian aros in my 375g. Have to removed the blotched snakeheads as they breed in my 375g many times already but my niger catfish sucked all the fry before they become free swimmer. My emperor also breed in my 375g too before. All fry died from fungus and cannibalism though.

I'm glad to hear that they are doing well. That Pleuro was one of the best looking specimens I've owned.

Both green and rtg are two of the most aggressive asian aro that can even rival the aggression level of a jardini. It will also depend on size and age and tank size. Male are actually morr aggressive. As for the pleuro, yes it died as the aro was swallow the head preventing it from surfacing for air. It help the snakehead for a long time.

sorry to hear that ive decided to keep snakeheads with my arowana when he gets bigger

With these two monsters it's always a bet. Some fish might tolerate others some might not. Depends on the individual. I'd always be comfortable with a species only setup. Good luck.

Cheers,

Karthik

I second that, my RTG rivals my snakeheads in aggression, ~5 year old , i suspect it's a male but i'm no expert, and he kills absolutely everything. A single datnoid who grew up with him and Very large bichirs are the only things that survive in with him. He's bitten me several times as well .
