snakehead fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I didn't mean to literally ban him.

But asking to find where to catch em to keep em and then, then finding out its illegal to keep em isn't gonna stop half the people out there specially when they just jump around and ask where to catch and kill

i live in FL and i cought so many fishing they are nice fish.. i would have one in my tank but im full :/ if i had space in an empty i would keep one. but try not to get cough transporting it ;) "nothing is illegal until you get caught"

people act like killing on will stop everything they are thousands. keeping one as a pet should not be illegal unless you are breeding them

I agree they shouldn't be illegal to responsible owners. A permit and maybe requirements of a gps traceable tag to prevent release and proof of death when it dies. all simple and easy to do but instead it's just outright banned. Hell make em legal and they can be over fished for the fish trade in our own waters taking down their population lol.

To the best of my knowledge the Snakehead only has one state with a completely viable population with the possibility of Deleware becoming the second state. Come down here to Maryland and fish the Potomac and you cannot possibly fail to catch dozens! We just had the first annual Maryland Snakehead tournament last month. The winner had like 68 of them and there was something along the line of 6,000 pulled from that tiny area in the potomac in the two days.

Careful what you wsh for. Maryland is the only state OVERRUN by Snakehead at this point. We use to have a viable population of a similar looking ancient native fish called the Bowfin in Maryland. Fossil evidence proves their habitat in Maryland up to a two of decades ago. There has NOT been a documented catch of a Bowfin in Maryland since the Snakehead invasion a decade ago.

The only other state with somewhat similar documented Bowfin catch decline is Deleware, who had two documented Bowfin catches last year.

I am not sure what is worse for the 150,000,000 bowfin. An invasive species outcompeting them or Law requiring drunk fishermen to kill anything shapped like a telefunkin' U47 by law!

where to catch a snakehead in new york? i kno if you catch then than you either have to keep it orkill it and its the only leagal way to get ahold of one so where r they?

I work with a Chinese guy from NYC and he insists if you know the right people they are very easy to obtain in Chinatown. Also, said the same about Fly River Turtles, but who knows. I have been tempted to find out about the turtle but don't have the space right now.
