Snakehead not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How long has it been in your "isolation" chamber?
Maybe he is just stressed to hell with being in such a small space with a bichir?

wonder if it is a good idea to wean it to pellets. from wat i observed, it has been on guppies for some time in the lfs.

If you can ween it onto pellets, that would be great. But good luck trying . . .

Also a bit more information is needed.
What SH is it? there are many dwarf species. Do you have a scientific or common name?
Some dwarf species although classified as "dwarf" need much much more tank space than you you would think.

The LFS keeping it in a much smaller tank means nothing. The LFS doesn't really give a damn about tank needs, just your money.

A small space means an unhappy SH.
An unhappy SH will be shy and or agressive, have low appetite, will look like crap and will eventually probably get ill / die.

Hope that helps somewhat.

oh, I meant is it a good idea to wean it to pellets now? or wait till a later stage? I am trying to get a candid so I can seek help wif iding. no name at all, that lfs doesnt know english. will push it to a vat soon.

The reason I was asking about the size of the tank is that Red SH grow quite large. They're also a very fast swimmer. Is there any way you can post a picture? I'm sure someone on here can give you an idea of a scientific name.

Oh, and I wouldn't bother with getting him to eat pellets yet. Personally, I'd keep some feeder guppies in with him.

I just read on here where a guy lost 3 SH after they lost their appetite. I don't know what happened, but someone else suggested next time to do a water change (my guess would be 20%) and add some salt(but not much as previously mentioned SH don't like salt in the water and could kill them).

Sorry, tank got extremely cloudy due to the lack of mechanical filtration and the feces of the fishes are extremely powdery upon breaking.

Got it into a holding tank for candid shots. Sorry for the blur photos.

I was thinking, won't it be tougher to wean it to pellets once it starts eating guppies? Which food would be the most irresistible for SHs? My friend is facing the same exact problem. Wonder what they are thinking. Hmmm...

BTW, colour is very dull. The colouring on the fins are due to the flash.
