SNAKEHEAD SPECIES COMPATABILITY ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's a few more pics of mixed sp. that i've found on the internet. :)

Stotty is correct, C. aurantimaculata does have a hibernation period. Due to the various seasonal monsoons and climate conditions in the natural area in which they are from. :headbang2

hello!i have made the experience, that my channa aurantimaculata are aggressive against other species.they don´t tolerate other channa species in the same tank.if you get a couple of aurantimaculata they will kill all tankmates.you wrote that the pleuropthalma are smaller than the aurantis,so you will get the problem that the aurantis might eat them.but the main problem is,that you can´t keep those species together because of the temperature difference they need,as stotty said before.

many yrs. ago when SH were legal in the U.S. I kept an african(not sure of latin ) with a green(again unknown latinbut looked gaucho) it worked for 3 days while I had med. catfish & a cichlid in there. on the 3rd day I took 3 fish out & then the 2 had an all out war until I had to take the green out ,well he removed himself from the tank I found him walking across the floor. I sure wish there was a comprehensive book on SH so I could id my prior wetpets.

Do any of you guys have any experience of inter-species snakehead compatability?
The specific species I have in mind are two of the mid-size snakeheads, C.aurantimaculata and C.pleuropthalma. (Jelly - I note you list 2 Golden Cobras and 3 Pleuros - are they in the same tank?) I have 2 aurantimaculatas at present about 11", and was thinking of introducing a small group (3 or 4) pleuros, but they are only around the 6-7" size and I am not sure how they shall fare because a) Aurantimaculata are fairly belligerent and b) the size disparity. I have experience with Pleuropthalma before, I had a group (on their own) from 5" to 11". Appreciate any details of your experiences. Thanks

Do you currently have the 2 C. Aurantimaculata together? If yes, did you raise them up from smaller size? Many years ago, I tried to put 2 smaller ones(6") together and they did not get along.
