Snakeheads are illegal in America aren't they?

I'm asking because I found one today at this little run down pet store nearby. It was kept at about 4" long in a 10 gallon tank with a mess of catfish and other random fish. It didn't seem like it was being very well taken care of so I decided to buy it even with the thought of it being against the law or something in the back of my mind.

The store owner sold it to me for 8 bucks. He didn't know what it was however and said it was accidentally shipped to them with other fish ordered from South America.

If it came from SA, it's not a snakehead. Post pics for clarification.

I got my camera out but I can't get a good shot. It's hiding in the jungle area of my tank.

It looks almost exactly like the guy in this picture. Down to the finnage and mouth. It even likes to sit at the bottom on the gravel, (Snakeheads do that don't they?).

Anyway, I'll post a picture when it comes out of hiding so you guys can tell me exactly what it is.

You can't use another pic to "help" us guess. It skews the professional guesses made here.

By the way, the pic you posted is a snakehead. As for your fish...

I know that I just can't get decent pic of the stubborn thing! And yeah that's one of the pictures I found while on Google trying to confirm if it wasn't or was.

If it helps with the ID the owner said the fish would eat bloodworms and flakes.
