Snakeheads in New York?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmmm maybe they should allow the taking of snakeheads by my LFS, im sure they could figure out a way to kill them all.

Lol, its pretty bad when you go to an LFS and want to buy all their fish just to "rescue them".

HAHAHAHAHA that is great. Not a good lfs huh?

Lets just say that i once watched those guys order in a group of beautiful discus, and stick them in a tank with the rest of their system, and i went back every couple of days, and always offered to pay the owner less each time, to rescue the progressively deteriorating fish, and always he would refuse, until finally, every one of those beautiful fish were dead. Somehow i couldnt see the profit and loss attitude of an operation like that. So could they kill a snakehead ?? probably so, unless it jumped up and grabbed that idiot by the throat, and maybe saved the rest of the fish in that store from certain death.

I once had a giant snakehead jump from a display tank at an LFS I was a part of. It was out for at least 12 hours. It was about 30 inches long and I found it in a corner covered in dust. It must have been cruising around the whole shop all night. Anyways I picked up the dried corpse to throw it away and just before I dropped it in the trash I swear I saw its eye move. So I dropped it in the tank and it sank to the bottom. A few minutes later it swam back to the top and gulped some air and sank again. All the skin fell off and it was covered in fungus. After a six months of meds and treatments it was disease free but completely covered in scar tissue. The meanest looking snakehead ever. So yes they absolutely can move between bodies of water.

it's said that snakeheads are banned in MOST states in the US. What states aren't banning them?

I find all this to stupid and complete bs. They don't move from bodies of water to another. Their movement is not like a snake. They don't search for prey out of water. If it was a permit kept only fish there would be no problem.
