Hi, I have a 750 gallon tank that is being set up..
I have raised cichlids in the past but never snakeheads.
I have read thru some posts on this forum and am learning alot.
I did not know that some snakehead are sub-tropical.
I believe this means temps of 18 to 22C...is this right??
The tank will have alot of driftwood, plants(both fake and real),
caves, etc..
The cichlids in there will be semi to aggresive....
The cichlids will be small at first and max out at about 12 inches.
Is there and snakeheads that are not sub-tropical and
grow to about 8 inches that would live with some cichlids in
this very large tank??????????? Thanks!!!

Hi,its not easy to say,it can be done but depends on many factors like-tank size, water values, plants, lighting, feeding, temperture, size and species of both cichlids and snakeheads!

pleurophthalma is imo the best snakehead for this
they like temps of 28C, don't seem to have too much of a preference for water movement

as chronick said i have a pluero in my tank with a chocolate cichlid, they get alone fine, did have a few oscars but sold them for space,

I kept a aurantimaculata with two oscars for years with very little trouble,
just kept my temp around 23 degrees

I checked it out...nice fish but grows very large....16inches plus....
is this right??? the pleuro might kill the cichlids at that size...don't
you think???

This would be a risky move since pleuro get about 20". Pleuro are the cousin of the giant micro SH and can inflict just as much damage to a fish if it decides to kill.

I recommend sticking to the smaller species of SH such as gachuas and parachanna africanna. There are other smaller species but hopefully someone can name them for you.

auranti is sub tropical and way more aggressive than a pleuro, pleuros are not that aggressive
I don't know if they're aggressive solo but as a pack they will wreck havoc. see for yourself.

For SH species you can check out this link.
