Looking into getting into snakes I’m wanting something with color and that is pretty easy to keep and handle when needed. So far iv been looking at milk and king snakes would either of these be fine for life in a 55gal tank as I have two that I would like to use or any other suggestions?

Either of those would be more than fine in a 55gal. Most will not even grow big enough for that (aside from some of the larger species like hondurans) but both can be pretty active when given the space so I am sure they will use it.
Many milk snake species can be a little bit flighty as babies and you are likely to get musked a few times so just be aware of that. But both milks and kings are pretty easy to care for and generally good handlers once they grow up a bit. I keep cali kings and I have never had a problem with nervous babies although I hear very different stories from some other keepers heh.

Honduran milksnake my brother just got one its about 5 feet

If you're gonna decide to get a ball python, get an adult female, because a hatchling could get stressed out from such a large tank and go off feed. To keep a hatchling in one, you'd have to put in a lot of hides to make it feel more secure. Other than that, it would be good as long as the temps and humidity was kept right

corn snakes are also good for what you are wanting.

I have an adult female ball named sarah---She's almost 15yrs old and is housed in a 55g tank :grinno:.

My list for a 55 gallon

King Rat Snake
Pine/Gopger/Bull Snake
False Water Cobra
Most Colubrids
Ball Python
Hogg Island Boa
Carpet Python (not a coastal)

If you are JUST getting into snakes and have never really kept any before I wouldn't necessarily recommend a king rat or a false water cobra, or some of the more finicky carpets in addition to a coastal (they get to big) but the rest of that list is good.

The smallest species of carpet python averages 5 feet, and they're quite bulky if healthy. A 55 just wont cut it. A hog islang is a no-go as well. They SHOULD attain a length of about 4-6 feet. Way to big for a 55.

Stick to colubrids or ball pythons.
