So far iv been looking at milk and king snakes would either of these be fine for life in a 55gal tank as I have two that I would like to use or any other suggestions?
I don't think anyone has mentioned a Sinaloan Milksnake. I haven't kept one in years but they were one of my favorite "pet" snakes that "had some color". I think they and Black Milks are among the best pets of the larger Milks. Of course Blacks probably don't have the color you're looking for.
Cornsnakes are an obvious choice. I like the Okeetee line that Lee Abbot developed.
Another favorite of mine is the Baird's Ratsnake. Very underated as far as a pet snake and I love the mix of subtle and not so subtle coloration.
One final comment. If you think this 55 will be a terrestrial snake cage for the rest of its life then consider turning it on its side and making the top the front. Many people add inexpensive sliding glass track and install glass sliding bypass doors. For ventilation have the glass shop drill holes for plastic soffit vents. You can also add a glass litter dam behind the track.
This makes the access more convenient and gives you a bit more floor space (but less height). Also holds humidity a bit better than the typical small animal lid for 55's.
