Cobras are actually one of the more reluctant biters among venomous snakes in the world. If you step of one, sure, they may snap and bite quickly, but their hooded display is meant to ward off predators before they have to expend the energy to replace venom used for defensive purposes.
In any event - the second one is related to rat snakes and a shame that the people there don't take the time to identify and become familiar with the differences. I have no issues with erradicating dangerous species, human lives come first, but to just go killing every snake you see is unnecessary and irresponsible. Its a shame, really, and it happens everywhere. Kind of goes against the whole Buddhist belief system that they have over there....
