Hi everyone. Here is a new pickup I got in this week. He's a purple albino goldenchild reticulated python and is around a month and a half old. I have him in a sterlite tub until he gets some size. He'll then go into a melamine cage later in life. I haven't decided on a name yet. He's my 2nd snake. I have a mexican black king snake that is nearing 1 year old. I'll post pictures of her later and when he gets situated I'll post some good pics of him as well. 20180509_075235.jpg

That's a good looking snake for sure, congrats. I love retics but I don't think I'm ready for anyhwere near ready to own one yet.

Thanks everyone. I went in wanting to buy a dwarf or super dwarf and ended up getting this guy. Males get smaller than females and if you don't feed it like a garbage disposal it won't get "as" big. Now I'm not delusional, he's going to get large, but I plan on keeping him healthy and small. So I'm not going to starve him but I'm going to feed him what he needs and that's it.

I'm "mostly" ready for this guy. I've had a kingsnake for about a year now and I have basic husbandry down great. I've also spent that whole year drooling over a retic and watching countless hours of video on them. For the last month I've spent roughly 4 hours a night reading and watching every bit of info I can on retics. I'm financially ready for the big cages. The only thing I'm not ready for is handling a 13ft snake. You can't be ready for that until you have a big snake and as he grows I'll learn. I'm going to train him now while he's small so when he's big he'll be tame. They have a really strong feeding response so you have to be careful.

Nice retic, what feeder you got him on right. Ow?

He came in the mail two days ago. I'll feed him next week. The breeder last fed a frozen thawed rat pup. He's about 6 1/2 weeks old.

Same! Although this will likely be my last snake. These two are definitely my top two favorite snakes and I want them to have the best care I can give them. I've learned how much time I can devote by having 10 or so fish tanks at once. I find the more I have the less care they get and I get burned out.

Thank you guys for the feedback. If any of you have any advice for me I'm all ears. I like constructive criticism. If any of you have any questions and I have an answer, I'm happy to help.

Feed him in a container outside his cage so he doesn't associate things coming in his cage as food.

Always wash hands etc after handling anything that may be considered a food item.
If he bites do not pull back, as they have rear facing teeth, don't let coils get over throat or torso if he's mad or angry.

Keep him well fed, most fatal python incidents involve underfed snakes,NEVER underfeed a large constrictor.

I'm going to try the container approach and yes for sure keep him fed. Don't want him to eat me. He's tiny now but he'll eat a rabbit one day.

I feed my kingsnake in her cage. She's tame as a kitty cat but she'll also be really small forever. It's funny how I use to think she'd be massive. I guess my perspective changed since I bought the retic.

I'm also going to use the paper towel roll approach when I open the cage. I see that used a lot by the pros. I'm getting a hook soon too.

That happens, my 6ft boa seems small now, seriously tho any snake over 8ft should only be handled with two people so make sure you have someone dude. Gonna be a fun ride, hope you stick with him long term. What's his name?
