SNAPPING TURTLE CARE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There was this (supposedly) famous turtle consverationist at the MARS expo who gave a seminar. He had monster snapper, the second biggest I've personally seen. He's been keeping turtles since the 60's and has bred endangered speices. He said he took a trip to Southeast Asia to see the turtle markets, and he bought several critcally endangered species, some of which are now the only ones in captivity. He described his huge sulcata setups (about an acre I think) with complicated underground 'bomb shelter'-like hides.

Anyway, I think hes a pretty credible source when he said he regularly sees his snapper on land basking. It's in a large murky pond (In Maryland) with fencing around it. Although turtles have a usual standard they go by, when something is avaliable, they use it. Same applies with all reptiles, or all animals for that matter.

I could give you a million examples of that.
