this shop near me that deals with reptiles has what i believe to be a common snapper, its kept in a vivarium, with a pool of water, would this be suitable home permanently? or happier in a tank full of water? hes abut 1ft in shell length

Thats massive LOL, ive seen bigger hee hee.Dan Feller;1532072; said:I have kept a Common Snapper for over five years. I used to keep an "island" in the tank, but I never saw him use it once. I finally got rid of it, he seems to enjoy the extra space. I do keep the water level at about 20", that way he can stretch out to get a breath without swimming.
I don't know if this true about all Common Snapping Turtles, but mine seems to be fully aquatic. From what I've read about wild turtles, it seems they only come out of the water to lay eggs or move to a new pond or river occasionally.
This is an old picture, I keep the tank (96Lx24Wx30T) a little fuller these days.
