Dang... that looks GREAT. Did you take the paper off of the bottom? It looks like it's sitting on a mirror now. I definitely would have kept it running if I had rays like that in it.
Did you get my two mags to start working, or did you have to get new ones?
Like I said, I had owned the crocodile gar for a bit over a year and my friend had it for 2 years before that. In that time it was never fed live nor had it it ever eaten a tank mate. I kept it with a few smaller fish, the smallest of which was a 6" c. piquiti. I'd be very suprised if he ate one of those guys, even if you fed him once a week.
Are you not going to use the filter socks? If you don't, the bio balls are going to get gummed up and the towers are going to start working against you and turn in to nitrate factories. All of the solid waste is just going to sit in the bio balls until it completely breaks down. If you use the socks and clean them once or twice a week you'll completely avoid that and reduce your water change frequency. IMO the extra time cleaning the socks is WELL worth it for those rays. Those little pads you've got sitting up there aren't really doing anything... Unless they are those dialysis pads.. .that might be a different story.
