No. That's not correct.

What is it? Florida plecos are called Snow Kings all the time and they seem to be just another variant of the common?

Just saying that if you're going to tell someone they are not correct, it'd be nice to also say why they are incorrect.

Agreed. Please state why or why not when trying to prove a point. Snow kings are in fact very large common plecos.

I didn't realize this was a mystery. Snow king refers to a specific species: Pterygoplichthys ambrosettii.

Commons could refer to Pterygoplichthys pardalis, Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus, Hypostomus plecostomus, or Hypostomus punctatus. There may be a couple others.

So the point is a large common pleco, Pterygoplichthys pardalis for example, is not a snow king.

As you can tell by quite a few posts, many thought differently. It's always good to say why or why not even if one person is wrong and doesn't understand. Then they are better educated int eh future!

Thanks for the explanation. Here in Florida, they are sold as Florida plecos, Florida commons, or just flat out common plecos. According to planetcatfish they are just like you say, but are the same fish bred quite widely in the florida farms/ponds, where they are apparently mislabeled and sold as commons.

I took some better pics of him today. My water is starting to clear finally after changing the tank over to sand....fishies are much happier, esp my pleco. He loves to try to bury himself in it.
