no he is going to need marine salt. its quite a bit different because it adds in minerals saltwater and brackish fish need.

Yeah, aquarium salt just doesn't work.

You're also going to need a hydrometer to measure the salinity (called specific gravity). Don't raise the SG more than .002/week or you'll kill off your biological bacteria. Are there tank mates in there? Was the tank cycled? They are very sensitive to poor water conditions. Keep the nitrates LOW!
