I would never stuff mine into a 30 gallon. I think it would be cruel. Not to mention a lot of work and upkeep that wouldn't be nearly as bad if he was in a larger tank. That's just my opinion.

There's this guy in another reef forum that had his healthy full grown 1 meter long eel in a 10 gallon - I though he was insane!!!!!

i really don't see how people can justify cramming a 30" fish into a 48" tank... they're actually quite active at night and when hunting

i really wouldn't keep an adult in less than 100... for now a 45 is fine i guess just keep up on water changes and upgrade when possible or sell him if it's unfeasable

Moray's need more length then width they only need half there length in width in a tank and there okay.

still a 30" snowflake would need more than a 55 (12") and still a 30" fish in a 48" tank isn't much

48 inches would be the least amount but would still be fine for them ^ I always go up one more length but not everyone can do that. But if at least the can do the minimal to house the eel safely is all that matters.

I kept mine in a 55 for 4 or 5 years then moved it into first a 75 and ultimately a 125. He's 10 years old and about 28" long. I cannot tell you how many of his tank mates he has eaten. He has VERY expensive taste. He even ate a niger trigger, I didn't think anything would mess with a niger trigger!

yeah people will be surprised at what there moray will eat I had a close friend whose green moray eel at a lionfish fully grown too.
