I just purchased this puffer. The lfs calls it a snowflake fugu puffer. It has two plack spots and lots of white spots. The body is quite long like a fahaka. The tail has a darkish yellow/orange color. Please help me id my puffer.
There are puffers that are not in the fugu group, those are usually genus Takifugu.
I would guess that the one above is a mainly marine fish, the 6" Takifugu niphobles but I don't know squat about puffers.
Looks like Takifugu niphobles. It's probably the second most commonly imported species of "fugu" puffer seen in the states, next to T. ocellatus. Here's the fishbase info on this brackish to marine species that is unfortunately often kept in FW:
Yep thats him I guess. Thanks for the info guys. And here I was freaking out thinking that I might have put too much salt in the water. He's really active and seems to like crayfish and mealworms.
