Lots of health regulation prevent the markets from allowing you to take home live fish. In many cases the fish they carry.....large cats...talipia...and the like are prohibited as anything other than a food fish.

But look at it another way...A HUGE part of what impresses people about large preditory fish is the knowledge that the hobbiest took the time and had the skill and patiance to grow it out from a baby to the beast swiming around in the tank...

To be perfectly honest with you ...instant monsters don't impress me in the least.

Pick up a baby channel cat or albino channel cat at your LFS for $3.00 and in less time than you realize you'll have a monster on your hands.
