thats funny you bought those eh ? you still have them ? lets see ...
mine was the last one left ...
I traded all of them and other fishes I had for a large Midas I saw on Craigslist. Then I gave that Midas to my friend because I couldn't sell it to get rid of it.. So all that was history..

found pix of the first one though.. like 3"+ at the time.. Pearls were gettin bigger and bolder as she grew too.

I say they are good quality because I did not just buy those 3.. I got a few more at other stores and from other ppl too at the same time and saw a difference..

yep that looks like the same batch ... i remember thinking they were too small at the time to hang with my dempseys , but i gave it a shot and now my alpha dempsey is still boss , but this guy is #2 and gaining fast .

I asked the lfs guy to ask his source about the origins of this carpintis ... so he got back to me today and said all he could find out was that it was imported from taiwan . so I guess that would mean it's a line bred carpintis right ??

Yeah.. That's actually a good thing to me because the quality of their shiny pearls are better than many others so I would assume the parents were probably selected for breeding maybe?

Thats a cool looking fish.

Are those blood parrots you have with it? If so they are the least deformed ones i have ever seen..

Imported from Taiwan? They certainly look like the other ones that are being sold as wild Mexio fish.

Very pretty fish, enjoy them.

looks like a carpintis vontehillo....i've got a pair that looks identical to that...i purchased mine from ira off of this site

They look the same to me too, but most of the carpintis races look the same to me. For the life of me, I can't see all the intricacies soooo many seem to see in the various races of this species, especially since most of the fish everyone has are just little guys. Who knows what they'll look like as adults?

Animal Guy, that fish is a beauty, and it's hard to get a decent shot of these fish I know! Is there something in its mouth in the first two pics?

its been bred with different carpintis, otherwise it wouldn't end up with yellowish skin above the lips.

i agree that it looks like those "vontehillo" ... but it will be interesting to make the comparison when there are more adults around ...
i don't think my original question can get answered now unless someone has connections with the taiwanese cichlid breeders. well , anyone ??? ...
i'm pretty sure my green terror is an asian bred fish too, as it is from one of the many local asian lfs , which has totally different stock from the chain stores ...
it was showing good color at 1.5 inches , unlike the petsmart ones ...
