so heres the start of my build....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, but don’t confuse strength with being water proof. Glass is scratch resistant… I wouldn’t have qualms about piling a nice pile of rocks on a piece of glass. Pond armor chips pretty easy as you’ll find out if you start piling rock onto it. I guess worst case scenario you could always silicon a sheet of glass down. I think even considering cost you should of went with glass.

Either way… good luck.

Well, if he's going to be stocking the tank with discus and rays I doubt he'll be adding any big rocks that could possibly harm the bottom. Plus, you'd have to drop a rock from a pretty good height to really even risk chipping the pond armor (I used that stuff on my old koi pond and it is extremely tough material).

Great build, I'd love to build a tank like this at some point!

actually as far as cost it was cheaper to do the wood and pond armor. and if you had issues with pond armor chipping, you might not have mixed it properly cause it rediculously hard to get off... i got some in places i did not want and i needed a chisel to get it off.

I'm assuming it's just raw foam at this point? I'm not sure how exactly to do it, but I've seen some pretty cool backgrounds with sand or other material (cement?) over the foam to make it look more like stone.

Not sure how well drylock would stick to the foam, but you could try painting it with drylock that has been colored to match your preference.

yeah, i definately need to add sand for texture, not sure on the color might have to try drylock.
right now thats painted with krylon fusion

got some more done... hopefully in a week or so i can start adding water to test
