So how come a lot of aquarium hobbyst live in their moms basement?

It's because they don't want to sacrifice a fun lifestyle and material items to be a responsible adult. This comes from my experience employing 20-something's over the last 10 years. I call my crew the "lost boys" like in Peter Pan. None of them want to save a dime, live paycheck to paycheck and stay with their parents but will buy the latest iphone, gaming console, weed, etc.

It’s funny, the only people I see in my office buying new cars, taking private jets, and constantly complaining how broke they are, are all over 50.

Us 20 something’s are working 70 hour weeks and don’t have to spend our bonus to make ends meet.

When does this "Responsible adult" thing actually actually start being worth it? Because, I've been waiting for almost 20 years and I'm not seeing much argument for it.
Hello; I think I follow what you say, at least to an extent. First thing to specify is that for those with well off parents a life on your own may well mean doing without. So yes life can be better in mom's basement. For a male however such a life in generally considered less than manly.

Being able to stand on your own may not bring material things. I guess there is also the being able to live life the way you want within your ability to provide for yourself.

For me it was a combination of things. First was that neither parent was able to keep me up so going out on my own was the basic choice. Another was that living with them meant living with their rules. Ah; there is much more but I don't feel like typing the stuff.

I cannot give you a time frame. Being a functioning adult has it's problems. Also has a few things you likely will not get living with your parents.

Lol, good one. That IS funny! I heard about the office you work at and it's jet usage. .....So, going to prove the earth is flat are you? ..Nice! :)

Nothing like that.
I just work in an industry that demands a lot but can be very financially rewarding.

No 20-something's I know want to work more than part time because they might miss out on some social engagement, and when they are working their nose is in their phone most of the time.

I am a 27 year old teacher with a master's degree and have owned my own home for 3 years. So I wouldn't generalize the entire age group of "twenty-somethings"

I'm 2x y/o have kids, married, tank(s), and my own place. Most of my associates/friends are in same position. Don't know many of those type of L's you talk about but you are who you hang with. But then again if I can live with my parents I'd have another Porsche or a bigger tank or eat out more maybe that wouldn't be so bad haha

My parents died when I was young. I hated being without resources, so I've been working and scraping since I was a teenager. I'm glad I didn't have much of a safety net to fall back on, I probably wouldn't have accomplished as much in life.

I think life is too easy for some of these kids. They're separated from the struggle. We protect and pamper our children more these days. Advancements in technology has blessed older generations with increased productivity and convenience but has really had an opposite impact on the developing youth. Because of this I try to no longer employ them. They can't spell, they can't type, they can't write in cursive, they can't speak proper english, they're always late despite uber and lyft and always having a cell phone to communicate and tell time. Their attention span is shorter than the fish's, and they can't stick with a project or long-term endeavor until fruition. It seems like many are on adderall and ritalin, plus self medicating when they really just needed an old fashioned butt-whopping as a child and some self-discipline.

I remember when you had 3 options turn 18:

1. Join the military
2. Get a full time job
3. Go to college or tech school

If one of those 3 weren't in check you were homeless, parents used to have more grit.

So two questions:

1 - Where do you work?
2 - Are you hiring??

1. Private Equity focused on Real Estate and Fx.
2. We are currently hiring a property manager and Senior Fx trader.

My parents died in a car accident when I was 16, I worked full time through college.
