So, how long does carbon really last??

^ thats a bad idea. that would be like your doctor giving you meds when you are perfectly healthy.


and i've heard that if the carbon isn't changed quickly enough, it'll slowly start to leech back the chemicals it absorbed in the first place? can someone confirm this?
 
had carbon bag in filters forever... no real issues, replace once a year unless I need meds, if I am treating I take out the carbon and give the tank a new bag...if it's a filter that has the carbon insert, I leave that in until the filter falls apart while rinsing...
